Overview

A tall bur oak stands in the middle of a large circular bed (stretching 70 feet across), offering an ideal setting for Master Gardeners to plant natives typically found in an oak savanna. The oak tree is situated at the street entrance to the County office building, offering visibility to all visitors and employees.  A ring of carex is planted under the bur oak. In the fall of 2024, a team of volunteers weeded and covered the area around the oak with cardboard and mulch to control weeds before planting begins in the spring of 2025. Over 2800 seedlings and perennials will be planted in the bed. A paved pathway around the perimeter of the oak savanna provides ease of viewing.
